Roma, Italia RINA A tempo pieno

RINA is currently recruiting for a Aerodynamic engineer to join its office in ROME within the Materials & Technologies Division.

Mission

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate with a strong background in aerodynamics for an exciting opportunity in our team. The ideal candidate should have a couple of years of experience in the field and will be based in Rome.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a candidate proficient in trade-off/optimization studies of preliminary airframe configurations, assessing airframe performance as design parameters and constraints. The aim is to select suitable configurations for detailed analysis. This analysis may encompass the entire airframe or specific components (e.g., wings, nose, etc.). Depending on the complexity of the problem, proficiency in utilizing optimization tools within MATLAB or ModeFRONTIER may be required.

#LI-MM2

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting simulations of aerodynamic coefficients using semi-empirical and/or CFD tools for the examined airframe configurations.
  • Generating CAD models of selected airframes from trade-off/optimization studies (".prt", ".stp", ".iges" files).
  • Preparing CFD calculation grids.
  • Methodological analysis for CFD simulations.
  • Performing CFD simulations for the configurations under examination.
  • Post-processing CFD simulations, including analysis of the aerodynamic field (such as pressures, velocities, temperatures, etc.), extraction of aerodynamic coefficients, and convergence analysis of the CFD simulation.
  • Generating models of aerodynamic coefficients using preliminary estimates from semi-empirical/mathematical tools and/or CFD simulations according to the Client-defined formatting, within MATLAB/MATLAB Simulink environment (".mat" files).
  • Analyzing aerodynamic and aeromechanical performance of the airframe (e.g., trimmability, maneuverability, range, etc.).
  • Generating progress and summary reports.
Education Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical EngineeringSkills

The ideal candidate will possess the following expertise and specific skills:

  • Master's degree in aerospace/aeronautical or mechanical engineering.
  • Proficiency in external aerodynamics for airframe design and evaluation, including fuselage, lifting surfaces, and control surfaces. Ability to determine aerodynamic coefficients across various flow regimes (subsonic, transonic, and supersonic).
  • Knowledge of internal aerodynamics, including turbojet engine air intakes and solid propellant engine nozzles.
  • Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), in particular:
    • Mesh preparation for CFD calculations.
    • CFD simulation setup.
    • Post-processing of CFD results.
    • Management of simulations on High-Performance Computers (HPC).
  • Proficiency in CAD software for design purposes.
  • Advanced to intermediate level proficiency in the following software:
    • BETA CAE Ansa for mesh generation.
    • BETA CAE Meta for post-processing analysis.
    • Ansys Fluent.
    • DLR TAU.
    • MATLAB.
    • MATLAB Simulink.
    • PTC Creo CAD.
    • ModeFRONTIER.
  • Understanding of flight mechanics principles.
  • Proficiency in system dynamics.
