We are looking for a Sr. System Development Engineer with a passion for developing embedded industrial software and control systems to transform the way we integrate robotics within our global network of advanced warehouses. This position is a unique opportunity to be involved in a wide range of automation projects right from the start. You will interface with multiple internal Amazon R&D and design teams as well as the world's leading automation strategic partners who have the technology and resources to meet Amazon's growth needs on a global scale. This is a role in a growing team responsible for realizing the convergence of modern software development with traditional industrial control. It is an early-stage initiative with a fast paced, highly collaborative start-up like environment inside Amazon, so to be successful you need to be flexible and entrepreneurial. You are a true owner - you are hands on and you lead by example. Key job responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain control software applications for mechatronic systems using modern software development practices, including CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies. - Implement automated testing frameworks and deployment strategies to ensure code quality, reliability, and seamless integration of control systems software. - Develop and optimize motion control algorithms, embedded programs, and real-time control systems for industrial automation. - Drive operational excellence through monitoring, analysis, and continuous improvement of software performance metrics and system reliability. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify process improvements, and troubleshoot issues with mechatronic systems. - 30% travel expected to support onsite system testing. Basic Qualifications - 6+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 4+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. - 4+ years of embedded software development experience. - Experience deploying, and supporting mechatronic systems. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with TwinCAT or Codesys - Knowledge of industrial fieldbus protocols such as Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT - Experience with multiple Industrial Control System platforms such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Fanuc - Experience influencing engineering best practices within your team - Ability to travel up to 30% and eligible for international travel Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
