Senior Test Automation Engineer - DC Charging Job Description Senior Test Automation Engineer - DC Charging Job Location: San Giovanni Valdarno Department: Testing Work Model: On Site Full-Time/Part-Time: Full Time Contract Type: Permanent Job Req ID: 1890
Help ensure the quality, reliability, and manufacturability of the DC fast charging solutions driving the future of e-mobility. At ABB E-mobility, we are accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation through innovative EV charging technologies. We are looking for a Senior Test Automation Engineer to join our Operations Test Engineering team and lead the development of automated manufacturing test solutions for complete DC charging products throughout their lifecycle, from early prototypes to mass production. In this role, you will transform product requirements, engineering changes, and manufacturing needs into robust, scalable, and traceable test solutions that enable reliable product validation, support production readiness, and provide clear evidence of product quality across hardware and software domains.
Your Responsibilities
- Own the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of automated end-of-line and in-line manufacturing tests, driving test coverage, repeatability, diagnostics, maintainability, cycle-time optimization, and first-pass yield performance.
- Translate product, system, and manufacturing requirements into traceable test specifications, acceptance criteria, structured test cases, automated execution flows, result evaluation methods, and controlled documentation.
- Plan and execute end-to-end black-box validation activities for new products, software releases, hardware variants, engineering changes, and production configurations throughout product introduction and manufacturing release phases.
- Partner with hardware and software development teams to drive Design for Testability (DfT), incorporating diagnostics, self-test capabilities, accessible interfaces, fixtures, and automation-ready features into product designs.
- Support the full product lifecycle by testing prototypes and pilot builds, converting findings into production-ready test solutions, and assessing the impact of changes during NPI, production ramp-up, mass production, engineering updates, and end-of-life stages.
- Investigate failures across power electronics, embedded software, communication interfaces, instrumentation, fixtures, and automated test applications, performing root-cause analysis and driving corrective and preventive actions.
- Specify, design, integrate, calibrate, and deploy production fixtures, instrumentation, data‑acquisition systems, remote‑control interfaces, and test equipment required for reliable automated testing.
- Manage requirements, repositories, pull requests, defects, traceability, CI/CD integration, test assets, and controlled software releases using Azure DevOps and Git, ensuring robust governance of test applications.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, manufacturing, quality, field service, suppliers, and external partners to resolve product‑quality issues, maintain consistent test standards, and contribute to a scalable long‑term test automation strategy.
Your Background
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- Significant experience in manufacturing test engineering, production test engineering, or test automation environments, preferably within EV charging, automotive, power electronics, industrial electronics, or embedded systems.
- Strong programming and test automation skills using Python, C#, or comparable technologies, with proven experience developing maintainable, scalable, and production‑ready automated test solutions.
- Solid understanding of end‑of‑line testing, end‑to‑end black‑box validation, test‑case design, test‑coverage analysis, quality engineering methodologies, and Design for Testability principles.
- Experience validating product releases, software updates, hardware variants, and engineering changes throughout NPI, ramp‑up, mass production, product‑change management, and complete product lifecycle phases.
- Hands‑on expertise diagnosing hardware and software issues using oscilloscopes, multimeters, protocol analyzers, embedded debuggers, JTAG tools, API testing tools, and automated instrumentation systems.
- Proven ability to define and integrate production fixtures, instrumentation, remote monitoring solutions, automated c
