Offer Description
The overall research project aims to develop an advanced system for intelligent monitoring and control of laser welding processes for automotive batteries. The activities will involve the design, implementation, and validation of a multimodal infrastructure integrating optical, acoustic, and process sensors, synchronised to acquire high-quality signals with adequate temporal resolution. Experimental campaigns will build a representative dataset covering different operating conditions and correlating sensor signals with key welding defects, including porosity, spatter, lack of or excessive penetration, and solidification cracking. The collected data will support the development and validation of prototype Physics-Informed Machine Learning (PIML) models integrating experimental data with physical process knowledge. The objective is to identify unstable conditions, predict defect formation, and support adaptive, real-time control of laser welding.
