Description Progress Rail Signaling Spa is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Hardware Designer .
Who We Are Founded in 1958 in Pistoia, Italy, as ECM, Progress Rail Signaling Spa has been servicing the railway infrastructure for well over sixty years in a constant pursue of innovation and cutting edge technology. Leader in producing power supply Units for railway and stations, signalling systems with LED technology, Automatic Train Protection Systems, ERTMS both trackside and trainborne subsystems.
Its Computer Based Interlocking system is a powerhouse of scalability and flexibility, managing hundreds of miles of railway from one central control room. Progress Rail Signaling, part of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, offers complete signaling solutions under the ECM brand for any railway infrastructure need all over the world.
Job Purpose The business environment relies heavily on hardware for many functions inside automated traffic control systems, and the Hardware Engineers are pivotal in the development of components that provides real solutions. An Hardware Engineer needs to address the entire hardware development lifecycle - to analyze the needs, and then design, test and develop hardware in order to meet those needs.
Job duties (Responsibilities and Accountabilities) Hardware Components Design:
The main purpose is to design new products and maintain all Digital electrical boards and/or Analog, circuits, components and interconnects for ECM Field Equipment Components (FEC).
To evaluate new software and hardware during deployment to ensure smooth functioning of system.
Develop and implement product designs and provide support to production and ensure compliance to time-frame, quality and cost targets.
Manage technical aspects and monitor efficient deployment of new technologies and systems, following the SIL4 development process, as prescript by EN 50126 and 50129 disposition. Test and Document Progress:
Plans that look promising on paper don't always work out. Throughout the development process, hardware engineers test components and modify them as necessary. They may discover, for instance, that software isn't running as desired with the hardware created. By analyzing data and making changes, they work toward a final product that operates seamlessly. Hardware engineers thoroughly document what they fix or alter in order to create a record.
Coordinate with product development teams to perform Design for Testability (DFT) on design cycle. They receive input and advice from software engineers and others involved in designing and testing. Working together throughout the various development stages helps reduce bugs and ensure a better end result.
Colleagues from other departments may seek out hardware engineers to answer questions or give suggestions as they conceptualize their own work, such as a software engineer inquiring about the memory needed to support a proposed upgrade. Collaborate with cross functional design teams such as hardware, mechanical and Software.
They also, however, should be adept communicators capable of conveying instructions in verbal and written forms.
The minimum educational requirement is generally a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering or a similar discipline, though a master's degree can increase job prospects. Hardware engineering software tools knowledge (such as Altium Designer, Orcad, Cadence Allegro)
Programming languages (such as C, C++)
Hardware description languages (such as Verilog)
Operating system software (such as Linux and UNIX)
Good English knowledge is also required (B2);
We invest in the health and well-being of our workforce, train and reward talent and develop leaders at all levels to bring out the best in each other.
