Electrical & Planning Engineer

RINA is currently recruiting for a Junior Electrical Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Viareggio, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division. Mission This role focuses on supporting the elaboration of detailed plan and design reviews, resolving issues related to conflicting design requirements, ensuring client requirements and applicable standards are met. Projects could include the approval of new building, conversion, and existing vessels and yachts. Key Accountabilities Review and approve drawings of electrical and automation systems, including autonomous ship technology and cyber security, on ships, offshore units, and marine equipment, in compliance with Class Rules and Statutory Regulations, for new buildings, ships in service, and ship's conversions. Assist clients during the design and construction phase, providing guidance and support related to electrical and automation systems on ships, including autonomous ship technology and cyber security. Provide support for the elaboration of detailed marine engineering plan review, in compliance with applicable RINA rules, international conventions and contractual requirements. Provide support for the resolution of issues related to conflicting design requirements and material standards. Provide direct day-to-day support and oversight of project elements, visit sites to take measurements. Provide direct or indirect support to engineers or engineering teams by gathering data, submitting documentation to officials and other day-to-day duties. Prepare the project deliverables (technical reports, project performance documentations and engineering drawings, etc.). Understand and apply project management concepts providing feedback to project manager, serve as reference for the escalation of issues. Manage simple projects assigned applying project management concepts and techniques. Answer contractor questions on behalf of the supervising engineer, and serve as liaisons between engineering and construction personnel. Education Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Qualifications 1 year of experience in the electrical engineering field, particularly with maritime electrical systems or in a technical consultancy environment. Solid understanding of electrical regulations and standards (e.g., IEC, ABS, IMO) for ships and maritime operations, including electrical system design, installation, and maintenance. Knowledge of electrical plan approval processes within the maritime industry, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies and international standards. Experience in evaluating electrical plans and drawings for marine vessels, reviewing them for safety, compliance, and technical feasibility. Familiarity with the use of electrical simulation tools and design software to assess electrical system performance. Strong analytical skills to identify potential electrical system issues or areas of non-compliance during technical reviews. A solid understanding of electrical systems on board ships, such as generators, switchboards, propulsion systems, and battery management.
