Software Engineer

GENERAL PURPOSE

The candidate is part of the Italian Controls Team and will require both flexing on all products manufactured in Europe. He will also work closely with Controls Team in UK and possibly also in USA.

Provide controls engineering to support and lead new product development and custom application projects as well as develop electronic control solutions using current technology that meet market and/or customer requirements. The position will assist and lead troubleshooting efforts performing service-related tasks to support products in the field. This person is expected to be a proficient user of all Rockwell Software product and Siemens software package (TIA portal), responsible for the development, testing, installation, and technical support of PLC software of the machine and project schedule at the same time.

This position will be responsible for assigned aspects of project execution and be able to manage time effectively across multiple projects.

EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE

• 5 to 10 years related experience with an OEM Manufacturer

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES

• Create new programs for new machines and machine upgrades following industry standards.
• Thorough understanding of electrical schematics, machine wiring regulations, control panel layouts, variable frequency drives/motors, PLC’s, and HMI’s is required.
• Print reading - mechanical, electrical, and schematic
• Manage personal schedule of responsibilities on multiple projects and communicate with engineering and manufacturing team members throughout the process
• Manage time to estimate and meet project timelines
• Take an engineering project from work order description through successful testing and customer acceptance
• Troubleshoot electrical and software designs in-house and for other BW Flexible Systems and customer sites.
• Assist both internal and external customers with problem solving.
• Work with vendors to assure quality and best value for specified electronic components
• Interface with Engineering, Manufacturing, Customers, Sales, and Project Management utilizing good communication skills
• Familiarity with the latest machine safety standards and various machine networking systems
• Continued education in latest technical and engineering developments, technology, techniques and components.
• Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prefer experience of the practical operation of packaging machinery and systems in customers’ factories – ideally VFFS and HFFS machinery.
• Develop new and modify existing PLC or HMI applications, interfaces
• Servo and motion control programming
• VFD programming and setup
• Programming skills using PLC’S and HMI’s
• Must be open to change and continuous improvement
• Mechanical aptitude of complex automated machinery
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Professionally communicate with many customers (internal & external) daily
• Proficient with MS Office
• Possession and modeling of strong ethics and values
• Travel max 30% including some international travel
