Staff Applied AI Engineer

Overview As a Senior Backend Engineer at Qonto, you will build AI-integrated backend systems that connect models to compliance workflows in a regulated environment. You'll own the end-to-end service architecture and help automate AML/AFC operations to accelerate onboarding and agent responses. You'll shape the technical direction in a small team and contribute to the broader FCC domain as Qonto scales toward a full banking licence. This role combines AI delivery with robust backend engineering in a fast, autonomous setting. Retribuzione / Benefits remote-friendly / full remote cross-country work locations participation in AI tooling access for all employees Responsabilità Build production-grade services that integrate AI models (Claude/OpenAI or open-source) with compliance workflows Own end-to-end service architecture and drive reliability and scalability without a PM layer Automate AML/AFC compliance operations (EDD automation and onboarding acceleration) with input from ops teams Monitor production, run post-mortems, track impact, and implement improvements Lead design discussions and contribute to the platform's architectural direction Operate with direct roadmap ownership and prioritize work in a lean, fast-paced process Requisiti fondamentali Strong backend foundation with experience in large-scale web applications and production constraints Experience shipping AI-integrated production systems Proficiency in Python (ideally) Solid ability to design and articulate architectural trade-offs Comfort owning the full product cycle from scoping to shipping without a dedicated PM ownership and accountability strong architectural judgment ability to work autonomously in a small team Python (ideally) large-scale web application architecture AI model integration (Claude/OpenAI or open-source)
