Lead Engineer – Front End & AI (Travel Things)
- (Hybrid) We’re seeking an experienced Lead Engineer – Front End & AI to join our Travel Things Team in our Barcelona or Milan (hybrid) to optimize the funnel experience, conversion & Revenue Optimization through the personalization. As a Lead Engineer in our Travel Things product area, you will guide a cross-functional team responsible for shaping and creating capabilities about how we sell and optimize products that make trips better — such as seats, bags, insurance, guarantees, car rental and private transport, and more. Increase conversion in our booking funnel through smarter user journeys. Grow revenue margin per booking by leveraging AI and machine learning to personalize the offer at every step. Leverage on real time data for covering the customer specific needs tailoring the offer of our products portfolio. Lead a high-performing team of backend and frontend web engineers, fostering growth, ownership, and technical excellence. Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and UX designers to create, validate and deliver high-impact product features. Drive the adoption of machine learning models, AI systems, and personalization frameworks into customer-facing features. Ensure engineering quality through technical design reviews, code reviews, and setting high standards for testing and delivery. Align closely with other engineering teams across the company to ensure a strong technical strategy and consistent delivery cadence. Proven experience as a Lead Engineer with tech leadership, ideally in B2C or product-led organizations. Previous knowledge or strong interest and/or hands-on experience applying machine learning or AI to product problems. Experience integrating ML models into production systems or working closely with data scientists is a big plus. Ability to break down complex systems and make pragmatic decisions that drive business impact. Experience building distributed systems and REST APIs. A product mindset: you care deeply about solving real user problems and measuring outcomes. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills — you’re comfortable driving conversations with Product, Design, Data Science and directly reporting to Directors. Experience with Applied AI Tools: Demonstrated comfort using practical AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other AI-powered coding assistants. Curiosity and eagerness to explore, experiment with, and integrate emerging AI-driven solutions into software development workflows. AI-Enhanced Problem Solving: Ability to effectively leverage AI tools to debug code, streamline development processes, and enhance productivity. Enthusiastic about continuously learning and quickly adapting to new AI features and capabilities. Collaboration with AI: Experience or interest in collaborating closely with AI tools as “pair programmers” to complement traditional software development practices. What’s in it for you?
