Job Title: Subregional Coordinator for North Africa

The Subregional Office for North Africa (SNE) focuses on developing, promoting, and implementing strategies and projects for food, agriculture, and rural development in the region, fostering relationships with subregional institutions, and functioning as part of the FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE).

This role is based at the FAO Subregional Office for North Africa (SNE) in Tunis, Tunisia.

Reporting Lines

The Subregional Coordinator (SRC) for North Africa (SNE) reports to the Assistant Director-General/Regional Representative (ADG/RR) for the Near East and North Africa (RNE).

Summary of Duties and Functions

The Subregional Coordinator for North Africa is responsible for leading multidisciplinary technical teams, spearheading FAO's response to regional priorities as per FAO's Strategic Framework, representing FAO in the region, and supporting the ADG/RR within the UNDG team.

The Subregional Coordinator also acts as the FAO Representative in the host country and other countries in the subregion, promoting FAO's contributions to national priorities.

Main Responsibilities

The duties for this position include:

  • Oversight of FAO strategic planning and program development in the subregion
  • Programme implementation and monitoring
  • Leadership on knowledge management
  • Management of human and financial resources
  • Contacts and partnerships

The candidate will be evaluated based on the following minimum requirements:

  • Advanced University degree related to the work of the Organization
  • A minimum of twelve years of relevant experience in program development and management
  • Demonstrated professional competence, leadership capability, and effective management skills
  • Extensive experience in partnership with various organizations and stakeholders
  • Ability to lead diverse teams in an international setting
  • Proficiency in French and English
