Role:

PURCHASING MANAGER
This position is located at BorgWarner's Italy Plant in Lugo (RA).

Lead the cross functional development, implementation and management of advanced purchasing strategy for key new product lines across BorgWarner business units.

Work with Global Commodity Managers and Reporting Unit Buyers to align Sourcing Strategy with Global Commodity Strategy.

Identify and develop Suppliers to bring Advanced Technologies and Products to market that meet and/or exceed BorgWarner's long-term expectations and that result in a differentiation in the marketplace.

Utilize Design for Value approach to drive early cost and quality optimization into new product lines. Pursue eBusiness solutions that eliminate non-value-added activities and increase departmental efficiencies.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate across functions to ensure all relevant RU GSM Teams provided with correct, sufficient, consistent, and timely program information at program acquisition stage
• Develops preliminary supply chain assumptions and quoting strategy, ownership and timing plan
• Leads identification of suppliers that should quote components and Plant Purchasing, to support Manufacturing & Commodity Strategies
• Work in Purchasing on global bundling versus regional/local RU supplier and RFQ quoting strategy according to Commodity Strategies as well as program winning targets
• Collects quotes from RU Purchasing as well as GCMs and global suppliers and compares data to benchmarks and those from other sites on similar and/or common designs
• Identifies opportunities of cost improvement and highlights any technical or supplier risks
• Collaborate with GSM team to optimize & align on BorgWarner strategy
• Leads Purcasing team to identify improvement ideas, DFV opportunities when there's cost gap to close to win the business, or when there's business decisive tasks to meet Divop targets
• Coordinates Purchasing and crossfunctional support to evaluate confidence level and risks of all potential ideas to meet BOM winning targets
• Identify critical and globally impacting issues, raise flag to related functions/RU management, support engineering/AME/GCMs and RU purchasing to map out programs impact, drive for root cause study and align for least risk/cost supply chain solutions
• Act as Global Advance Purchasing for Morse New Technology and New Product development before ready to sell
• Identifies the commodity and potential supply base for the new components or new technologies Advance Engineering and AME are developing to support electrification business development
• Provides preliminary RFQ support to acquire costs and manufacturability feedbacks for the new technology or new product design from identified suppliers
• Coordinates and facilitates design reviews with the identified most capable and competitive suppliers to ensure all costs and process assumptions are mutually acknowledged and agreed between internal crossfunctions and suppliers
• Summarizes and tracks all challenges, risks, and opportunities for different development milestones for costs, supplier strategy, and feasibility aspects, and ensure all crossfunctional teams are fully aligned
• Summarizes and tracks the crossfunction aligned conclusions on DFV outputs by each supplier and each component
• Coordinates supplier's confirmation based on DFV concluded design change execution and obtains the most updated costs impacts
• Supports weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings related reports on new technology and new product line development status in supply chain and costs aspects
• Conduct RU purchasing team training and transitioning according to the plans approved by the GSM and RU leadership
• Identifies the top global and regional strategic suppliers for new technology and new product during advance stage and conduct preliminary review and onsite audit together with the Engineering, Operations and AME

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent is required
• At least 8 years' experience in the role within a relevant industry and 3 year spent in Automotive Production Purchasing
