A Laboratory Engineer performs physio-chemical testing necessary for characterization of materials, typically metals, such as:

1. Tensile testing
2. Impact testing
3. Hardness testing
4. Chemical analysis
5. Corrosion resistance assessment

They perform macro and micro-structural evaluations using state-of-the-art optical microscopy image analysis. They contribute to drafting technical procedures and work instructions. The Materials Testing Technician or Engineer functionally reports to the Materials Testing Technical Lead, constituting the interface with internal and external stakeholders during execution of tests, validation of data and presentation of test results.

Verification of testing samples and issuance of dimensional certificates. Ordinary maintenance and routine checks of test equipment and apparatus. Management of reagents and labware safely and according to environmental requirements. Performance of materials testing, in accordance with established written procedures and international standards. Collection of data in accordance with requirements of the testing procedures and standard. Secure storage of data in accordance with raw-data management procedures.
