WFP's mission is to strive for a world with Zero Hunger, ensuring every individual has access to nutritious food. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT The Legal Office (LEG) of the World Food Programme in Rome, Italy, is seeking Legal Consultants for the Administrative and Employment Law Branch (LEGA). These consultants will offer legal services regarding WFP's employment relationships. The Legal Consultants may engage in assignments across LEG based on business needs and personal interests. The Legal Office consists of three branches providing advice on different aspects of WFP's operations:
  • The Administrative and Employment Law Branch (LEGA) offers advice on the employment relationship between WFP and its employees;
  • The Contractual and Constitutional Law Branch (LEGC) focuses on legal aspects of WFP's governance, partnerships, and contractual matters;
  • The Maritime, Transport, and Insurance Law Branch (LEGM) advises on supply chain activities and procurement.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive) Working closely with LEGA's Senior Legal Officer and the legal team, the consultant will:
  • Handle various legal matters, ensuring comprehensive legal services;
  • Contribute to legal strategies involving WFP;
  • Conduct legal research, prepare documents, and offer legal advice;
  • Support in negotiations, settlements, and dispute resolutions;
  • Minimize risks and promote informed decisions;
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as needed.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Education: Looking for a lawyer with at least five years of relevant experience. Prior expertise in administrative or employment law and international settings is a plus. Work Experience: Advanced degree in law with training in private, commercial, or public law. Must be qualified to practice law or admitted by a recognized bar association. Knowledge of international law and the UN system is desirable. Knowledge Skills:
  • Proficient in legal research and analysis;
  • Ability to draft clear and concise legal documents;
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills;
  • Effective time and priority management;
  • Independent decision-making abilities;
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen;
  • Discreet handling of confidential information.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English (level C) is required.
