Organizational Context

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the realization of the Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transition to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for improved production, nutrition, environment, and life quality, with a commitment to inclusivity.

The Shared Services Centre (SSC) recommends and implements management processes and procedures efficiently; ensures quality assurance activities related to transactional processes and service delivery; enhances customer satisfaction, internally or externally, while striving for service excellence and cost reduction through process standardization, automation and self-service capabilities.

Reporting Structure

The Finance Analyst will report to the Finance Officer and collaborate closely with the Finance Unit team and FAO Decentralized Offices.

Technical Focus

Provision of financial services to FAO Decentralized Offices.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine financial administration support and transaction processing tasks including inputting, checking information for accuracy and reporting discrepancies;
  • Verify data accuracy, report irregularities, discrepancies or issues to supervisors;
  • Aid in reviewing transactions, rectifying errors and taking necessary accounting actions;
  • Assist in reconciling suspense accounts and ensuring proper clearance procedures;
  • Extract transaction details from the accounting system for analysis and validation;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, support new systems, processes or databases development, testing and implementation;
  • Ensure smooth processing of invoices, payments, returns and liaise with corporate banks if needed;
  • Draft correspondence to address queries;
  • Provide procedural guidance and advice to staff and managers;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business or relevant field to the work of the SSC
  • Minimum one year of finance experience, internships and volunteering considered as professional experience
  • Proficiency in English (level C)
  • National of Hungary or resident with valid work permit

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Proficiency in French (level C)
  • Understanding of financial rules, regulations, accounting policies and practices;
  • Knowledge of transaction processing and approval procedures;
  • Familiarity with ERP corporate financial systems;
  • Understanding of communication and documentation standards;
  • Proficiency in another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) would be an advantage;
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications and Oracle ERP application or similar ERP system.
