Brightsmith is supporting a renewable energy company to hire a Senior Grid Expert in Italy. The company develops, builds, and operates utility-scale solar PV and PV BESS projects and is strengthening its Engineering & Construction capability to support a growing Italian portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to take a lead technical position in grid connection strategy and delivery, working at the heart of project development, construction, and long-term asset performance within a stable, fast-growing solar platform. What Makes This Role Stand Out • Act as the main grid and interconnection expert for utility-scale solar projects in Italy • Ownership across the full project lifecycle – from early development through construction and operations • Direct technical interface with Terna, DSOs, EPCs, and key suppliers • Strong exposure to PV BESS and hybrid solutions • Join a focused engineering team with high technical ownership and long-term responsibility Key Responsibilities • Manage grid connection processes for utility-scale solar PV BES S projects across Italy • Act as the primary technical interface with Terna, Italian DSOs, and competent authorities • Perform, review, and validate grid studies (load flow, short-circuit, dynamic and compliance studies) • Ensure compliance with Terna Grid Code, CEI standards, and ARERA regulations • Define and optimise MV/HV connection solutions, substations, and step-up transformers • Support permitting and authorisation procedures through preparation and review of grid-related documentation • Coordinate EPC contractors, grid consultants, inverter suppliers, and equipment manufacturers • Assess grid constraints, curtailment risk, and connection capacity during development • Support the technical integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid PV solutions • Provide grid-related technical support throughout development, construction, and operational phases • Contribute to the standardisation and continuous improvement of internal grid engineering practices Who We Are Looking For • Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred) • 8–10 years’ experience in grid engineering with a strong focus on utility-scale solar PV • Proven experience managing Italian grid connection procedures end-to-end • Direct experience working with Terna and/or Italian DSO s (e-Distribuzione) • Strong understanding of solar PV plant architecture, inverters, and protection schemes • Hands-on experience with power system analysis tools (e.g. DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS®E, ETAP, PSCAD) • In-depth knowledge of Italian grid codes, CEI standards, and ARERA regulations • Structured, autonomous, and comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously • Fluent in Italian and English • Based in Rome, with flexibility for site visits and meetings We value diverse technical backgrounds and perspectives, If this role aligns with your experience and career ambitions, we encourage you to apply and we will follow up with you shortly.
