The Office of Communications (OCC) is responsible for all corporate and internal communication activities of the Organization. It ensures coherence and consistency in FAO's corporate messaging and communications' outputs, as well as enables cost-effectiveness in use of communication-related resources across the Organization.
The post is located in the Digital and Multimedia branch (OCCI) of the Office of Communications (OCC) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Reporting Lines:
The Communication Officer (Photo Editor) reports to the Communication Officer (Multimedia), OCC.
Key Functions:
Researches and analyses technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology-related information, data and statistics and/or related policy issues to support internal and/or external communication.Produces a variety of information and reports as well as input for communication-related documents and web pages.Collaborates in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes and databases.Participates in multidisciplinary teams and/or leads working groups/teams.Collaborates with other divisions and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices.Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations.Specific Functions:
Oversees the Photo Unit and the FAO Digital Media Hub team, by providing capacity-building to ensure that high-quality standards are maintained for FAO's global audiovisual collection, issuing clear assignments of work and responsibilities, managing performance, and mentoring.Sets and upholds standards for quality, timeliness and relevance of FAO's corporate photo collections, through the development of guidelines and quality-assurance workflows.Commissions and oversees photo production for corporate, field and creative projects, in coordination with relevant FAO or partner teams, driving the development of creative communications projects, including media partnerships, the use of photography to support the communications objectives of FAO.Sets standards for, and advises commissioning teams on, photographic missions and coverage, from the planning stage to production, post-production and distribution.Supports the development and implementation of strategic plans for audiovisual content production within OCCI and across FAO, by liaising with FAO staff across various teams to identify photo coverage needs, budgets, timelines and deliverables.Liaises with FAO staff across various teams to identify photo coverage needs, budgets, timelines and deliverables.Develops and maintains a network of professional photographers based around the world to meet FAO's photography needs, assisting with the management of contracts with external vendors.Ensures consistent highest quality standards of images and associated information (captions and related texts, keywords, credits and copyright notices, relevant terms of usage or other restrictions) to meet the needs of the Organization.Builds FAO's communications capacity by increasing the scope and usability of 'FAO's digital assets through the new FAO Digital Media Hub, promoting the production and use of media assets that meet 'professional standards.Ensures the proper management of photo archives and the proper safekeeping and preservation of historical photo materials.Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following:
Minimum Requirements:
Advanced university degree in communication, communication technology, journalism, photography, visual arts or related field.Five years of relevant experience in communication, news or journalism environment and/or social media networks.Working knowledge (proficient – level C) in English and limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).Source:
