OverviewJoin to apply for the Staff Engineer, Development Lifecycle role at Canonical.Lead our effort to get Ubuntu fit for applications in automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics and other highly regulated environments. To achieve this, we are investing in processes and engineering, tools and analysis, practices and people. Success will secure open-source software's place at the highest tables in industry, where the demands of regulation, compliance and certification are met.We are seeking someone to lead this effort. You will transform complex demands into concrete outcomes and into engineering excellence values and practices. This is not a paper exercise; it means leading and challenging engineering culture, working with teams across the organization. Your work will bring practices to life at every level of engineering, unifying agile approaches across multiple projects and teams.You will help define Canonical's ways of working, collaborate with engineering leadership to describe and implement continuous improvement processes, and establish qualification requirements in support of engineering quality standards. You will define methods for measuring quality and use them to shape and sharpen engineering culture. You will also establish strategic relations with external working groups, committees and partners. You will join the industrial standards team at Canonical and work with company-wide engineering leadership to deliver this vision.Location: This role may be held anywhere in European, Middle Eastern, African or Americas regions or time zones.ResponsibilitiesLead the effort to align Ubuntu for regulated environments (automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics, etc.).Transform complex regulatory and certification demands into concrete engineering outcomes and practices.Drive adoption of engineering excellence values across multiple projects and teams.Collaborate with engineering leadership to describe and implement continuous improvement processes and qualification requirements for quality standards.Define and apply methods to measure quality and influence engineering culture accordingly.Establish strategic relations with external groups, committees and partners.Work with Canonical's industrial standards team to deliver the vision across the organization.QualificationsStrong experience in engineering and process management in an agile environment.Knowledge or certification of standards addressing software quality artifacts such as ISO/IEC 25010 or ASPICE.Experience leading successful compliance and certification efforts and managing stakeholders.Experience with Linux.Nice-to-have / Additional skillsBackground as a software developer.Experience establishing product engineering development metrics and KPIs.Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.What we offerFully remote working environment - we have been remote since 2004.Personal learning and development budget of 2,000 USD per annum.Annual compensation review and recognition rewards.Annual holiday leave and parental leave.Employee Assistance Programme.Opportunity to travel to new locations to meet colleagues at sprints.Travel perks for long-haul company events.About CanonicalCanonical is a pioneering tech firm leading the global move to open source.
