The Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) team is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Applied Scientist to lead the development and implementation of state‑of‑the‑art algorithms and models for pretraining and supervised fine‑tuning, with a focus across image and video modalities. As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will play a critical role in driving the development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technologies that can handle Amazon‑scale use cases and have a significant impact on our customers’ experiences. Responsibilities Collaborate with cross‑functional teams of engineers and scientists to identify and solve complex GenAI problems in Computer Vision. Design and execute experiments to evaluate the performance of different algorithms and models, and iterate quickly to improve results. Think big about the arc of development of GenAI over a multi‑year horizon, and identify new opportunities to apply these technologies to solve real‑world problems. Communicate results and insights to both technical and non‑technical audiences, including through presentations and written reports. Mentor and guide junior scientists and engineers, and contribute to the overall growth and development of the team. Basic Qualifications PhD, or Master’s degree and 5+ years of applied research experience. 4+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience. Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning. Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language. Preferred Qualifications PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field; with a focus on GenAI in Computer Vision. Experience with learning multimodal LLMs and GenAI in Computer Vision, both in the image and video domains. Strong programming skills in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch. Excellent problem‑solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and critically about complex problems. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams. Experience with patents or publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
