Software Development Engineer III, Recipient Experience Recipient Experience (REX) – Our mission is to deliver reliable and innovative solutions that allow the business to optimize targeting and sending post‑order transactional notifications worldwide, and enable end‑customers to receive timely order updates and prompts to take action when needed. We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer (Sr SDE) to help set the technical vision for the products they own. They act as a role model, mentor other SDEs, are fungible, and can quickly pick up new systems and consult when needed. They understand complex designs and solve them head on. We expect they have an established background delivering highly distributed systems at scale, using design patterns such as SDKs, libraries, and versioning, and maintaining a strong operational track record while working with multiple teams. As a Senior SDE, this role provides you with autonomy and ownership to solve difficult problems, working backwards from client and customer impact issues such as resource isolation in distributed systems. Key job responsibilities The ideal candidate has strong experience in designing and developing scalable, high‑performance systems and services that are flexible, reliable, and maintainable. You have excellent problem‑solving skills, a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, and a customer‑focused mindset. You take a pragmatic and iterative approach to building software, simplifying and getting things done with a demonstrated track record of delivering software and working effectively with external and internal teams. You will build services to handle billions of requests per day, maintaining response latencies in the milliseconds and meeting strict SLA requirements. Our systems and algorithms operate on one of the world’s largest product catalogs, routinely handling massive datasets using distributed frameworks. About the team REX is dedicated to continuously improving our products by adding communication channels, reducing cost to deliver, improving experimentation velocity, and reducing operational load to stay ahead of the curve and meet the evolving needs of our customers. Basic Qualifications 5+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems, including reliability and scaling Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
