OverviewAmazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician intern to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team.This committed group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. Specifically, this intern will work to ensure that the data center's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing operates at 100% availability while maintaining first‑class customer service to the teams and groups within the data centers.The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician Intern will assist with operating and maintaining all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. The intern serves as a technical resource to support Amazon within its owned and operated data centers. Data center equipment that supports mission‑critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. Our interns are also tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities. They are Amazon’s frontline responders for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand‑by diesel generators, switchgear, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFD’s, and building automation systems.This role starts in January and February 2026 (depending on school terms) and is a paid full‑time internship lasting 20 weeks.ResponsibilitiesMaintain mechanical and electrical equipmentAssist root cause analysis of equipment failuresAssist in troubleshooting of facility and rack‑level events within internal SLAEnsure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing workTake daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipmentTake daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipmentAble to work a 12‑hour shift (rotating 3 to 4 day work weeks and might include night shifts)Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and perform rack installationsOther RequirementsWalk job sites in uneven terrainWork at heights and from laddersRegularly lift and/or move up to 18 kg unassisted and participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or moreCoordinate body movements when using tools or equipmentReach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balanceBend or twist the body into unusual positions while workingPerform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tiredPerform extended site rounds that could include long distances of walking and long periods of time being away from a deskUse hands to manipulate small wires and objectsPush or pull heavy objects into positionWork in a noisy environmentWork shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts)Work at depths, such as under raised floorsWork support could include travel to more than one site location (travel less than 25 % of time)Basic QualificationsIn pursuit of or obtained Bachelor’s Degree within a relevant field such as mechanical/electrical engineeringIn pursuit of or obtained certification from a Technical/Trade school program (HVAC, electrician, facilities maintenance, or similar)English language proficiency, both written and verbalAbility to work well with others in a team environment, displaying strong time management skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience in project or program managementUnderstanding of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls)Amazon is an equal‑opportunity employer.
