Data Center Engineering Operations Chief Engineer, DCEO Amazon Web Services (AWS) AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovations they rely on. This team keeps the cloud running by maintaining critical physical infrastructure and operating mechanical, electrical, and fire/life safety equipment at peak efficiency. Key Responsibilities Oversee day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers. Assist in the design and build‑out of new facilities. Act as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues within the data center region, working overtime as needed. Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures. Diagnose and report facility and data‑center‑level events within internal SLA. Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams. Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and assist in recruitment. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff. Utilize internal Change Management Systems to manage building workflows. Perform MV/LV isolation to facilitate MV maintenance. Provide metric availability reporting on a weekly basis. Competencies and Behaviors Ability to solve problems at the root, understanding broader context. Aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving. Maintain SLAs through proactive issue detection and immediate response. Proven experience reading SLDs and control schematics. Follow support procedures, system documentation, and issue‑tracking entries. Good judgment and decision‑making instincts. Prioritize effectively in a complex, fast‑paced environment. Take ownership of technical issues brought by customers. Basic Qualifications Good verbal and written English communication skills. Apprenticeship/trades certified or diploma in an electrical field. Demonstrated key electrical competencies (practice & theory). Knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, controls). Ability to draft accurate support procedures in English. Full ownership of technical issues. Willingness to travel between data‑center sites, including internationally. Solid IT skills; experience with MS Office suite. Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of operations and on‑call support for data‑center or mission‑critical facilities. Undergraduate degree in a technical field (EE, MechE, Industrial Engineering). Project management experience. Physical Requirements Work at heights and from ladders. Perform physical tasks. Operate in a noisy environment with ear protection. Working Location Data centers are located in remote areas outside Milan; a valid driving license is required. Flexibility is needed to travel within the EMEA region. Work Schedule 100% in‑person onsite. Standard hours are 8 AM – 5 PM Milan time, Monday‑Friday, with no shift work. Working Language The interview process is conducted in English.
