C++ Firmware Engineer

We are on the lookout for a skilled firmware engineer with strong C++ skills to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of relevant experience and will be a lab animal - not afraid to fiddle with hardware and prototype the firmware for it. Your role will be to conduct the development and prototyping of avionic systems for space products and related ground equipment, focusing on the software/firmware aspects. You will work on our SADA portfolio (SARA & MARA) today and other developments in the future. It's a chance to play a crucial part in our team, where your contributions will directly shape the space systems we develop.Starting month: Feb-May 2025Working language: EnglishWorking location: Turin, ItalyYour missionbare-metal microcontroller programming in C++ (we use many features of the modern releases of the language);prototyping and designing of firmware for avionic space systems (like our SADAs);participation in developing and conducting tests for the validation and flight qualification of our products;active contribution in the AIT (assembly, integration and testing) processes of avionic space systems.Your skillselectronics, embedded software, mechatronics, automation, robotics, or similar engineering background;demonstrated professional experience in autonomous design of firmware for microcontroller-based systems;demonstrated professional experience in developing and automating test code;excellentskills in modern C++ and good OOP practices;advanced knowledge of any typical embedded-system communication interfaces such as RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet;fluent in reading electronic schematics;very good skills in using laboratory equipment for debugging(e.g., oscilloscope);ability to work independently;team player;fluent use of git, CMake;resilience and ability to work in a fast-paced environment;comfortable use of English (speaking and writing);legal authorization to work in the Italy.Nice to havefluent use of CI toolchain;good knowledge of Python;electronics design and soldering experience;experience in space systems AIT;good knowledge of physics in the context of space engineering (effects of radiation, vacuum and thermal stresses on electronic systems);good knowledge of space industry standards, in particular those referring to design, assembly, integration and testing of electronic systems.What we offerGoal-oriented environment with flexible working hours;Possibility of occasional remote work;International team driven by passion and commitment;Company activities and retreats;Buoni pasto;Hands-on experience with the design, manufacturing, and testing of space-grade systems;Direct impact on a NewSpace startup in the heart of Europe’s high-tech hub.About the hiring process15-min screening call with Gaia (HR Manager)Depending on the role, take-home exercise60-min in-depth technical interview with the embedded systems team30-min final interview with Marco (CEO)Welcome onboard Studies have shown that women and people from unprivileged backgrounds are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification.
