The team does both, and we are open to candidates who lean toward one or the other.About The Role And How We WorkHi I’m Colin, Head of EMEA Engineering. I’ve spent a number of years leading engineering teams in startups, always staying close to infrastructure teams. I’ve built the initial infrastructure for startups and understand the value a talented infrastructure engineer brings. Our infrastructure is in a good place for now, but things never stay static. Ashby grows quickly, placing strain on our current infrastructure. We’re always looking to give our customers more powerful hiring software, and new product features often require new infrastructure.I value infrastructure‑as‑code. As a Platform Engineer at Ashby, you’ll dive into scaling problems, add new capabilities to our platform, and think about how the entire team interacts with infrastructure. Our engineers own their projects end‑to‑end and ship with minimal oversight.We’ll need you to make good decisions, debug thorny issues, and build a future‑proof platform that can withstand our scale. For instance, you could work on:Optimize our homegrown ultra‑dynamic recruiting DSL‑to‑SQL compiler and create tools to help developers use itCreate automated guardrails for the security and privacy of our customer dataHelp our developers ship features fast through canary deploys, gradual rollouts, and feature flags while keeping complexity manageable and reducing downtimeWork with the business and engineering team to define SLOs and implement the corresponding SLIsEnsure all communication with external services supports retries and circuit‑breakersImplement the infrastructure to support an event‑driven architecture and data warehouseWe’re looking for someone who can build systems that engineers love to use: mature and reliable yet flexible. Excellence in reliability and flexibility is critical, and this role demands comfort evaluating risk and making informed decisions.You Should Apply IfYou never stop. We give ample commentary and feedback but expect you to ship and own your work.You hate SQL. We have many features built around data; platform engineers sometimes dive into reports or advise on data modelling.You don’t want to code. Our SREs are software engineers responsible for the application; reviewing and submitting code changes will be part of your day‑to‑day.Your primary mode of communicating best practices is live meetings. We are an async culture where written communication and code drive change.You’ve never delivered a project on your own without prodding. There are no project managers; you need to manage scope and progress yourself.Technology StackTypeScript (frontend & backend), Node.js, React, Apollo GraphQL, Postgres, Redis. We use Datadog and Sentry on 100% cloud‑based AWS infra.
