ENGINEER / RESEARCHER – DIGITALISATION and AI in CONSTRUCTION (m/f/d)Shape the future of the construction sector together with Fraunhofer Italia. As an engineer or researcher with a focus on digitalization and AI in construction, you will work on innovative projects where interoperability, simulations, software development, and AI are combined with sustainable technologies. You will actively contribute to transforming construction processes, energy systems, and infrastructure — towards greater efficiency and sustainability. Bring your expertise in civil engineering, computer science, or related disciplines and develop practical, forward‑looking solutions together with an interdisciplinary team.Your RoleDevelop, integrate, and apply digital methods and AI‑based tools (e.g. simulation‑driven digital twins, automated and digital workflows, automated planning systems) to optimize processes in the construction contextPromote interoperability and data connectivity in construction and engineering workflows through open standards and APIsContribute to the automation of (digital) construction processes using AI‑, rule‑, and simulation‑based approachesConduct applied research, and develop prototypes and simulations (FEM, CFD, energy models)Participate in national and international research projects (e.g. EU projects), including project planning, coordination, and result presentationCollaborate in interdisciplinary teams combining engineering, software development, and AI, together with partners from academia, industry, and the public sectorYour ProfileCompleted master’s degree in civil engineering, architecture, construction informatics, computer science, or related engineering disciplinesKnowledge of digitalization solutions in construction (BIM, simulation, IoT, data management)Interest in applying AI, machine learning, and digital twins to construction and infrastructure projectsEnthusiasm for interdisciplinary research at the intersection of construction, software development, and AIInitial experience in research or development projects, ideally in publicly funded contextsExcellent communication skills in English; German or Italian knowledge is a plusWhat We OfferParticipation in cutting‑edge research projects on AI‑supported construction processes, interoperability, and simulationsAccess to state‑of‑the‑art technologies, methods, and laboratory environments as well as an international and supportive working atmosphereIndividual development opportunities through training, mentoring, and continuing educationFlexible working models and home‑office options for a healthy work‑life balanceAttractive remuneration package and a three‑year contract with the prospect of permanent employmentJoin UsBring your expertise in construction and your enthusiasm for digitalisation to our team We look forward to your application if you want to help shape the future of construction.
