The United Nations World Food Programme, hereinafter referred to as “WFP”, with its Headquarters in Rome, Italy, is the leading humanitarian organisation saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impacts of climate change. The mission of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is to provide WFP stakeholders with assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of WFP’s governance, risk management and control processes; to detect and deter fraud, waste and abuse through independent and objective oversight activities; to conduct inspections and investigations into allegations of wrongdoing and misconduct; and to facilitate the adoption of United Nations, humanitarian-sector and private-sector good practices related to assurance and oversight.
OIG consists of three functional branches: The Office of Internal Audit (OIGA), which provides independent assurance and advisory services on governance, risk management and internal controls. The Office of Inspections and Investigations (OIGI), which investigates allegations of misconduct including fraud, corruption and sexual misconduct by WFP employees and partners and conducts inspections into areas of heightened risk.
