Conduct research using mouse models and human induced pluripotent stem cell‑derived cardiomyocyte models of genetic cardiovascular disease. Apply contractile biophysics, cellular and whole‑heart electrophysiology, in‑vivo physiology, and molecular biochemistry approaches to study the effect of gene mutations on protein function. Participate in collaborative research activities within the Barefield Lab and the broader Department of Cell and Molecular Physiology. Present findings at local and national scientific society meetings. Ideal Candidate Qualifications Recent PhD graduate in a biomedical research background (or obtaining PhD before start). Experience in molecular cardiology, microscopy, tissue culture, biochemistry, mouse physiology, or biophysics. Enthusiasm for pursuing novel research areas and developing new techniques. Team player interested in mentoring and training other lab members. Independent thinker with initiative to pursue new ideas. Motivation to pursue career development opportunities such as fellowships, awards, and networking. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Position Features Open, collaborative, and stimulating research environment with expertise in cardiac electrophysiology, cellular biophysics, imaging, aging, and proteomics. Training in super‑resolution quantitative microscopy, image analysis, mass spectrometry, mouse and human induced pluripotent stem cell models, and cardiac electrophysiology/contractile biophysics assays. PI commitment to mentoring and tailored career development opportunities to support transition into desired career path. Frequent interaction with collaborators at Chicago research universities. Minimum Education and Work Experience M.D. or PhD required. Certificates / Credentials / Licenses None specified.
