Amazon LEO will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.Key job responsibilitiesAs a Satellite Communication (SATCOM) System Engineer, you will be responsible for Customer Terminal (CT) architecture, integration and validation with hardware, software, and firmware. You will work in a collaborative environment with a multi-disciplinary team including electrical hardware, antenna, simulation, silicon, algorithm, firmware, and software engineers. In this role, your responsibilities include:Develop the CT architecture by working closely with sub-system engineers in electrical, RF, antenna, thermal, modem, DSP, ASIC, algorithm, firmware, modeling, and softwareDevelop the validation plans, build the validation infrastructure, execute testing, analyze data, and report the results to the stakeholdersInvestigate and resolve validation failures by leading cross-functional teamsEnsure the delivered work meets technical, functional, performance, regulatory, and business requirementsPerform in-field and on-orbit validation with satellitesTravel up to 10% of the time, depending on project phasesExport Control RequirementDue to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.A day in the lifeAs a SATCOM System Engineer on the Amazon Leo Customer Terminal Team, you will work daily with electrical hardware, RF, antenna, silicon, and product design engineers, as well as software and operations teams in a collaborative environment. Your focus will be on architecting, integrating, and verifying customer terminal functional performance to ensure it delights our customers.About the teamThe Leo Customer Terminal team is responsible for developing both outdoor & indoor devices, enabling customers internet service via the Leo satellite network. We own the entire process from early prototypes through mass production including requirements documents, architecture definition, hardware development, and all integration/verification testing.Basic QualificationsExperience with networking fundamentals including hands-on experience with load balancers, switches, routers, etc.Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, or other relevant engineering discipline3+ years of satellite terminal development, integration, and validation experienceStrong understanding of communication systems, RF, and antennaExperience in MATLAB, Python or C++Familiarity with test instruments such as spectrum analyzer, vector signal analyzers, channel emulators, and GNSS emulatorsPreferred QualificationsMaster or PhD degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or other relevant engineering disciplineKnowledge of digital communication systems, error correction, synchronization, spread spectrum, single and multi-carrier techniques, and modulation types such as QPSK, APSK, and QAMUnderstanding of free space communication and satellite link budget principles in K bandExperience in developing simulation and modeling toolsFamiliarity with active and passive RF components, beamforming circuits, electromagnetic propagationSatellite over-the-air communication field-trial experienceExperience working with mobility satellite terminals such as maritime and aeronauticalAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
