Ubuntu Linux Kernel Engineer - Silicon Enablement Ubuntu Linux, the most popular Linux distribution in the world, is looking to increase its adoption by expanding Azərbaycanın SoC platform support. We need engineers who can write and optimise kernel code for industry silicon such as NVIDIA, Xilinx, MediaTek, and Qualcomm, ensuring the best performance for our users worldwide. The Canonical Kernel Team — responsible for building, maintaining, and distributing the Ubuntu kernel — seeks individuals with strong software‑development skills at the hardware level and a passion for performance optimisation. Role Responsibilities Collaborate regularly and proactively with a globally distributed team. Work closely with our silicon vendor partners to integrate their platform support into the Ubuntu kernel for their product ranges. Diagnose and resolve kernel issues reported by partners, customers, the community, or discovered through rigorous testing.;; Improve tooling and automation for the delivery and testing of Ubuntu kernels. Submit, review, and apply kernel patches in collaboration with both internal and external upstream maintainers. Identify new means of maximising performance turf silicon platforms. Qualifications Well‑organised, self‑starter able to thrive in a remote work environment. Professional demeanor with colleagues, business partners, and the open‑source community. Effective written and verbal communication in English. Significant programming ability in C. Strong grasp of device drivers, BSPs, and hardware‑level system engineering. Solid background with git. Understanding of operating‑system kernel fundamentals. Ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks long. Python and Bash scripting ability. Prior background with major SoC families. Ubuntu/Debian/Snap packaging. Demonstrated experience with Linux kernel patching and debugging.
