POST CONTEXTThis is a position within the Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE), an organization of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).CMRE is an established, world-class scientific research and experimentation facility that organizes and conducts scientific research and technology development, centred on the maritime domain, delivering innovative and field tested Science & Technology (S&T) solutions to address defence and security needs of the Alliance. This position is within the Infrastructure Branch. The Infrastructure Branch is responsible, among other duties, for the management of facilities maintenance to include electrical, plumbing, structural repairs and ground maintenance, as well as for maintaining property records and sub-custody accounts and coordinating and processing all stock and property inventories.2.

PRINCIPAL DUTIESUnder the direction of the Branch Head, the incumbent’s duties include:Carry out skilled work in all projects relating to electrical wiring, the maintenance of all the electrical apparatus including the electrical part of the air conditioning system, the installation of electrical control equipment for safe operation of laboratories and facilities, installation of optical fibers, telephone lines; Ensure proper and timely maintenance (corrective and preventive) of the Centre plumbing system (toilets, water system, etc), heating plant (furnaces, oil fired boilers, ducts, radiators and oil storage system), air conditioning system consisting of preventive maintenance, repair work or additions/modifications;Escort and supervise external personnel entering the Centre to perform any type of outsourced corrective/preventive maintenance;Ensure liaison with external maintenance contractors to ensure timely housekeeping (gardening, etc.);Assist in loading and unloading operations as required;Ensure proper and timely (preventive and corrective) maintenance of the Centre’s vehicles is carried out;Drive the Centre’s vehicles in support of Centre’s staff having needs for travel in the local and regional area;Operate the stock room in support of Centre’s staff needs;Carry out minor maintenance work (plumbing, electrical, masonry, painting, carpentry, etc.) as part of the daily responsibilities;Assist in relocation of office furniture, technical/scientific equipment, etc.;Assist in preparing technical and administrative reports, and maintain drawings and technical documentation of the buildings and its technical installations;Perform other related duties as assigned.3.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND ADDITIONAL DUTIESa.

Flexibility ClauseThe incumbent may be required to perform other related duties as directed.All other related duties should correspond with the required competencies for the job.b.

Deployment/TravelThe incumbent may be required to perform duties onboard Centre or chartered vessels. The incumbent may be required to undertake TDY assignments within and outside NATO boundaries.4.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONSa.

Professional/ExperienceEducation and experience will be in installing, maintaining, repairing and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, electrical wiring and related equipment in domestic, commercial and industrial establishments. Installation and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical power distribution networks.Manual dexterity and ability to perform practical tasks with consistency (such as plumbing, electrical, masonry, painting, carpentry, etc.).Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or specifications.Possess the appropriate driving license according to Italian regulations for category B.

Education/TrainingA secondary educational qualification with 5 years post-related experience.OrHigher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3 years post-related experience. c.

Language RequirementsA thorough knowledge of one of the two NATO languages, both written and spoken, is essential and some knowledge of the other is desirable.English SLP 2222 NOTE:

Most of the work of CMRE is conducted in the English language.5.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSSecondary education and basic training in electronics, electrical or mechanical engineering, plumbing or related discipline for specific task related skills.Knowledge of Italian safety regulations.Italian SLP 3333.6.

REMARKSThe duties are mostly performed in an office, laboratory or workshop environment, but staff may be required to work onboard a vessel.
