Our fleet of robots operates across hundreds of facilities worldwide, working in sophisticated coordination to fulfill our mission of customer excellence.We are pioneering the development of robotics dexterous hands that enable unprecedented generalization across diverse tasks, are compliant yet impact‑resistant, can achieve fine dexterity and non‑prehensile manipulation, naturally cope with uncertainty, and leverage mechanical intelligence, multi‑modal sensor feedback, and advanced control techniques.Key Job ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement novel, highly dexterous and reliable robotic hand morphologies.Develop parallel paths for rapid finger design and prototyping using different actuation, sensing technologies, and finger morphologies.Create new testing and validation strategies to support fast continuous integration and modularity.Build and test full hand prototypes to validate performance.Develop hybrid approaches combining actuation technologies, under‑actuation, active and passive compliance.Integrate hand into the overall embodiment.Partner with cross‑functional teams to rapidly create new concepts and prototypes.Collaborate with Amazon’s robotics engineering and operations teams to grasp requirements and develop tailored solutions.Document designs, performance, and validation of the final system.Basic QualificationsPhD or Master’s degree and 4+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML or related field.Experience using AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, SketchUp, KeyShot, or similar for high‑quality models and designs.Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment.Experience in finger actuation, under‑actuation, active and passive compliance.Experience in tactile sensing.Preferred QualificationsProgramming experience in Java, C++, Python, or related language.Experience with MATLAB, R, Python, Stata, or similar.Experience working effectively across cross‑functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels.PhD in Robotics with a focus on mechanical design and robot control.Experience with tendon‑driven, electrical, and series‑elastic actuators.Background in real‑time control, particularly torque/impedance control and contact‑rich manipulation.Experience with grasp planning.Experience with ROS/ROS2.Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000 per year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,400 per year in our highest geographic market.
