Offer Description
The project aims to develop innovative photocatalytic strategies for the sustainable synthesis of organoboron compounds (OBCs), fundamental in organic chemistry and crucial for the pharmaceutical and materials sectors. Since traditional methods based on carbanion chemistry are poorly sustainable, an efficient and eco-compatible approach driven by visible light is proposed. Photocatalysis grants access to open-shell intermediates under mild conditions, a reactivity suited to boron substrates, whose vacant p orbital favours radical stabilisation. Its core is the biomimetic design of the photocatalyst: natural photoactive cofactors will serve as templates for synthetic catalysts reproducing their light absorption, excited-state redox potentials and recognition elements outside the protein scaffold. Photoinduced radical mechanisms will form C–C and C–N bonds, yielding a sustainable platform for the stereoselective synthesis of chiral OBCs.
