Applied Scientist, Amzn Shipping-Prd & Tech Our customers have immense faith in our ability to deliver packages timely and as expected. A well‑planned networkLable‑scales to handle millions of package movements a day. It has monitoring mechanisms that detect failures before they even happen, such as predicting network congestion and operations breakdown, and performs proactive corrective actions. When failures do happen, built‑in redundancies mitigate impact by preventing reliance on single points of failure, whether the failure is a service provider, node or arc. The system is also cost‑optimal so that customers receive the benefit of an efficiently set‑up network. Amazon Shipping is hiring Applied Scientists to improve our ability to plan and execute package movements. You will work on multiple challenging machine learning problems across a wide spectrum of business challenges. Your work includes building ML models to audit off‑manifest costs, improving the quality of financial and planning data by accurately predicting ship cost at the package level, forecasting the number of packages that need to be picked from shipper warehouses to reduce first‑mile shipping cost, and predicting delivery delay for every package using signals from the transportation network and external sources such as weather. To do this you will translate Transportation domain problems into one or more Machine Learning problems, drawing on supervised, unsupervised, semi‑supervised and reinforcement learning paradigms. Your model choices will span linear/logistic models, tree‑based models, deep learning, ensembles and Q‑learning. You will use interpretability tools such as LIME and SHAP, develop reusable modelling solutions that scale across regions (North America, Europe, Asia) and package movement сфер_types (small parcel and truck movements), and partner witholtaothers in the Applied Science and Research communities. Your solutions will reach production quality and will be directly used in production services. You will collaborate with a diverse data science and engineering team that includes other Applied Scientists, Software Development Engineers and Business Intelligence Engineers. You will contribute to the Amazon ML community through scientific papers and conference submissions, mentor junior Applied Scientists and Software Development Engineers, and provide ML consultation to other problem statements outside your immediate team. Basic Qualifications Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or a related language. Experience with SQL and a relational database or data warehouse (e.g., Oracle). Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications. Preferred Qualifications Experience implementing algorithms using both toolkits and self‑developed code. Have publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals. Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers walnut.
