Junior Research Associate in High Performance Computing

The Advanced Digital Innovation Center (ADIC) at the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), located in Lecce, is looking for a motivated researcher in High Performance Computing to join our research group. In this role, he/she will contribute to the activities of porting, profiling, modernization, optimization, and parallelization of scientific codes on heterogeneous supercomputing infrastructure.

ROLE
The Junior Research Associate in High Performance Computing reports to the ADIC center and collaborates closely with other team members to lead porting activity and benchmarking of numerical models and scientific applications on heterogeneous supercomputer architectures.

Responsibilities
The Junior Research Associate in High Performance Computing will support the ADIC center by:
  1. Assessing the parallel performance and identifying scalability bottlenecks in numerical models.
  2. Evaluating the best strategies to port and optimize the scientific codes on heterogeneous supercomputer architectures.
  3. Continuously updating knowledge on emerging technologies and tools supporting HPC.

Requirements
  1. M.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent fields.
  2. Knowledge of HPC environments and architectures.
  3. Demonstrated experience with Linux environment, bash scripting, and software setup & configuration.
  4. Knowledge of programming languages for scientific computing (Fortran, C, C++, Python).
  5. Experience with parallel programming on HPC infrastructure (e.g., MPI, OpenMP).
  6. Knowledge of tools for performance analysis of parallel programs.
  7. Experience with version control system tools (i.e., Git/GitHub).
  8. Fluency in both written and spoken English.
  9. Flexibility to work on a diverse range of tasks and manage deadlines.
  10. Ability to work in a team and independently.
  11. Drafting of scientific reports and technical documentation related to the developed solutions.

Duration, Compensation & Benefits
  1. Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
  2. The Managers will be based in Lecce CMCC office.
  3. The appointment period will be initially 12 months starting from April 2025, with a gross annual salary range based on qualification and working experience, competitive with major research centers in Europe.
  4. Welfare package for minimum 12 months contract.
  5. Flexible working time as per internal policies.
  6. Support during the immigration process, if needed.
