Kirby Group Engineering is delivering some of Europe’s most complex and technically demanding projects across data centres, life sciences, industrial and energy sectors. Due to continued growth in Italy, we are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join a flagship data centre project in Milan.
This is a senior leadership role with significant influence across pre-construction, project delivery, commercial governance and client engagement. You'll work closely with Operations, Engineering, Planning and Senior Leadership teams to maximise project performance while developing and mentoring a talented commercial team.

The Role
As Commercial Manager, you will provide commercial leadership across the Business Unit and project teams, ensuring robust commercial governance, risk management and financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
You'll be heavily involved from bid evaluation and contract negotiation through to project completion and final account settlement, ensuring commercial objectives are achieved while supporting successful project delivery.
Alongside project responsibilities, you will play a key role in building commercial capability, developing best practice processes and strengthening commercial awareness across the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead commercial strategy and governance across the project and wider Business Unit
- Manage Business Unit revenue, profitability, cash flow and monthly reporting requirements
- Establish and implement the optimum commercial team structure
- Mentor, train and develop Quantity Surveyors and commercial team members
- Support tender evaluations, commercial reviews and bid strategy development
- Conduct gap analysis on tender opportunities before contract award
- Review and negotiate client contracts, identifying liabilities, obligations and commercial risks
- Lead commercial negotiations through contract award and project execution
- Evaluate project risks and implement mitigation strategies with senior stakeholders
- Review and challenge monthly profit plans, forecasts and commercial reporting
- Drive accountability across the commercial function to ensure project milestones are achieved
- Manage subcontractor and supplier commercial arrangements, including contract terms and payment approvals
