The aim of the research is to develop a methodology for the multilevel analysis of historic building fabrics in relation to natural and anthropogenic risks, with a view to defining conservation strategies. Over the two-year period, the research will include: a state-of-the-art review; the selection of two Sicilian case studies characterised by fragility related to abandonment and natural hazards; direct investigation through critical surveying and indirect investigation through historical and archival sources; data systematisation; vulnerability assessment; definition of intervention strategies; and methodological validation and synthesis. The approach will be structured around three interrelated phases: knowledge, interpretation and intervention. Research reports will be produced for each phase, together with at least two scientific contributions to international journals or conferences. Activities will be carried out at the SDS of Architecture and Cultural Heritage in Syracuse.
