Fully remote (with recurring meeting/retreats in northern Italy) We are a fast-growing, innovative startup looking for a Backend Developer (all levels) to join our team and help us build AI agents. Your mission: maintain/expand our server infrastructure and create integrations that make our AI agent accessible as a voice assistant, and through email and Whats App. ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs Build integrations to connect the AI agent with external communication channels: Voice: integrate telephony via technologies such as Live Kit (calls, speech input/output) Messaging: integrate with Whats App and email systems Implement and optimize real-time communication flows using Web Sockets Ensure scalability, reliability, and security of backend services Collaborate with frontend and AI engineering teams to deliver seamless multi-channel experiencesCore Tech StackNode.js Hono (or similar frameworks like Express.js) Web Sockets Type Script Postgres/Supabase (schema design, query optimization, migrations) REST APIsIntegration Skills (not mandatory; you can learn on the job)Twilio/Live Kit (voice, SMS, call routing, Whats App) Email integration (like SMTP) Experience designing robust webhook flows and handling external APIsBonus SkillsExperience or strong interest in AI/Context Engineering (Open AI APIs, RAG systems) Docker, CI/CD pipelines, cloud services Event-driven architectures (Rabbit MQ, etc.)Soft SkillsFlexible mentality and adaptable in a startup environment Strong problem-solving and debugging skills Passion for what you do Self-discipline for remote work, with openness to in-person meetupsLocation Must be able to attend periodic (every 6–8 weeks) in-person meetings in northern Italy????
