Key Job Responsibilities Take part in the day‑to‑day operations of data centre electrical systems Carry out routine maintenance checks on critical power equipment Monitor and operate electrical distribution systems safely and efficiently Support emergency response procedures when required Learn to operate and interpret Building‑Management Systems (BMS) to monitor facility performance Assist in conducting equipment testing and maintenance activities Help maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities Support the inspection and testing of emergency power systems Develop an understanding of cooling systems and their link to power infrastructure Apply problem‑solving skills to troubleshoot electrical systems with support from experienced engineers Practical Skills Development Operating and maintaining UPS systems, generators, and switchgear Following safety protocols and procedures Using monitoring systems and tools Understanding power distribution in a data centre environment Responding to alarms and alerts Basic fault finding and problem resolution Recording and reporting maintenance activities Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to analyse and fix power system issues, understand how different parts of the system work together, and apply important industry safety standards. You will develop both technical and practical skills, learning to work independently and as part of a team. We are seeking individuals who possess a strong technical aptitude, excellent analytical skills, and a keen attention to detail. You will gain a vast range of useful experiences and skills while working towards the Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard – Electrical Power Protection and Plant Commissioning Engineer. As a working student you will focus on completing your studies for 20% of the job time, learning and developing your skills, knowledge and behaviours to work towards a successful graduation. Your apprenticeship will last 36 months, starting in September, and will include classroom/virtual training, on‑the‑job training at your Amazon base location, and mentoring from our experienced team members. Basic Qualifications Be 18 years or over before the start date (September 2026) Have the right to live and work in England. If on a visa, this must enable you to legally work and reside in England for the entire duration of the programme. Have lived in the UK or in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 years Be a resident of the UK for the entire duration of the programme Not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending August 2026 or later Have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4‑9 (A‑C) or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English Have an A‑Level in STEM but must include Mathematics (grade C or above); or a BTEC Diploma in a STEM subject or Level 3 IT apprenticeship AND pass a mathematics Level 3 qualification Accept the requirement to travel to Chester for two days per month as part of training Provide a Statement of Comparability for overseas qualifications where applicable (use UK ENIC) Understand that the 36‑month fixed‑term contract requires a new apprenticeship – you must NOT already have a qualification in a similar subject at the same or higher level Have some or little prior knowledge/experience of the occupation Preferred Qualifications Curiosity and eagerness to learn about technology and engineering Attention to detail and safety awareness Clear communication and teamwork skills Good problem‑solving and analytical skills Amazon is an equal‑opportunity employer.
