Software Development Engineer, RBS Tech

Retail Business Services (RBS) supports Amazon’s Retail business growth worldwide through three core tasks: (a) Selection, where RBS sources, creates, and enriches ASINs to drive GMS growth; (b) Defect Elimination, where RBS resolves inbound supply chain defects and develops root‑cause fixes to improve free cash flow; and (c) operational process support for WW Retail teams where there is an air gap in the tech stack. The RBS tech team develops automation that leverages machine and deep learning to scale the execution of these high‑complexity tasks that currently require human cognitive skills. Our solutions ensure that information in Amazon's catalog is complete, correct, and comprehensive enough to give Amazon customers a great shopping experience every time. We are seeking a Software Development Engineer who can design and develop systems for its businesses. Key job responsibilities We are looking for a sharp, experienced Software developer with a diverse skill set and background. As an SDE‑2, your work is consistently of high quality. You solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices. You work with your team to invent, design, and build stable and performant software. You are proficient in a broad range of design approaches and know when it is appropriate to use them—or when it is not. You limit the use of short‑term workarounds, create flexible software without over‑engineering, make appropriate trade‑offs, reuse where possible, and judiciously introduce dependencies. You are efficient with resource usage (e.g., system hardware, database, memory, CPU). You work on project ideas with customers, stakeholders, and peers; you help evolve your team by actively participating in code reviews, design discussions, team planning, and ticket/metric reviews. You focus on operational excellence, constructively identify problems, and propose solutions. You take on projects that improve team software and processes. You can train new teammates on how your team’s software is constructed, operates, is secure, and fits into the bigger picture. Basic Qualifications 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scalability) of new and existing systems experience Experience programming with at least one software programming language Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scalability) of new and current systems Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
