Sr. Hardware Development Engineer, Bespoke Solutions Job ID: | Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. Join AWS as a Senior Hardware Development Engineer to architect and lead the development of next‑generation cloud infrastructure hardware. This role will sit in our new headquarters in Northern Virginia, where Amazon will invest $2.5 billion dollars, occupy 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and create at least 25,000 new full‑time jobs. By working together on behalf of our customers, we are building the future one innovative product, service, and idea at a time. This position requires the candidate to be a US citizen and currently possess an active Secret security clearance. After starting, the selected candidate must obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph or equivalent for each agency for which they perform AWS work. Key Job Responsibilities Architect and lead development of complex PCB designs incorporating FPGA SoCs Drive system‑level hardware architecture decisions and technical requirements Lead new product introduction (NPI) processes with contract manufacturers Develop and validate high‑speed digital and mixed‑signal circuits Ensure designs meet EMI/EMC compliance, thermal, and signal integrity requirements Partner with FPGA/firmware teams to define hardware interfaces and requirements Lead design reviews and drive technical consensus across multiple teams Mentor junior engineers and establish hardware engineering best practices A Day in the Life You will work with a cross‑functional team of hardware, software, and FPGA engineers in our dedicated product development lab. Your day might include architecting new hardware solutions, reviewing PCB designs, collaborating with contract manufacturers, debugging prototypes, or mentoring team members. You'll partner closely with product managers to define requirements, work with FPGA engineers to optimize hardware interfaces, and engage with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth production ramp‑up. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field 10+ years of hardware engineering experience Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stackup and circuit board layout Experience with DFx (Design for cost, test, manufacturing) Experience with FPGA SoC hardware integration, hardware validation and debugging Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Secret or above Preferred Qualifications Experience with AMD/Intel FPGA SoC platforms Expertise in signal integrity and power integrity analysis and PCB design tools (Allegro, Altium, or similar) Experience with high‑volume manufacturing and NPI processes Experience with industry standards (PCIe, DDR, SERDES, etc.) Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above Compensation and Benefits The compensation for this position ranges from $128,600 to $213,600 per year, based on geographic location.
