Overview RINA is currently recruiting for a Marine Surveyor to join its office in Milano, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division. Mission The Senior Surveyor serves as an experienced and knowledgeable professional within the organization, applying expertise in maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry principles. The Senior Surveyor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement of surveying processes. Key Accountabilities Professional Specialist: Acts as a professional specialist, applying in-depth knowledge of Rules, Regulations, and industry concepts. Keeps abreast of new developments and recommends changes to surveying processes and safety programs. Inspection and Reporting: Conducts routine surveys on classed ships, offshore installations, or marine assets to ensure compliance with classification and statutory requirements. Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys. Leadership and Coordination: Plans, schedules, and coordinates various phases of surveying work. Monitors the quality of service, providing guidance to less experienced surveyors. Client Interaction: Engages with clients to solve problems within the area of expertise. Ensures client satisfaction through effective communication and resolution of issues. Training and Development: Provides guidance and training to less experienced surveyors; contributes to the development and improvement of the skills and knowledge of the surveying team. Quality Assurance: Ensures the maintenance of quality, content, consistency, and continuity of work performed. Ethical Conduct: Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in survey processes. Technical and Commercial Responsibilities for Testing Services: Promotes RINA’s testing and product verification services within the assigned geographical area, engaging with shipyards, manufacturers, suppliers, and other marine industry stakeholders. Conducts technical and commercial meetings with clients to present RINA’s testing services, explain operational procedures, assess client requirements, and identify new business opportunities. Supports the preparation of technical commercial proposals, including service definition, cost estimation, scheduling, and alignment with RINA procedures and regulatory frameworks. Ensures the proper execution of testing activities carried out by RINA personnel in the area, monitoring performance, compliance with standards, and adherence to client specifications. Verifies that personnel, equipment, and competencies assigned to testing activities are adequate to ensure a high-quality service, contributing to planning and operational coordination where appropriate. Acts as a primary point of contact for clients during testing activities, ensuring smooth communication, effective management of issues, and overall customer satisfaction. Monitors local market trends and competitor offerings in the field of testing and product certification, providing strategic feedback to support the improvement and development of RINA’s service portfolio. Ensures full compliance with RINA Rules, applicable statutory regulations, internal procedures, and corporate principles of quality, integrity, and safety across all testing-related activities. Qualifications In general, minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Surveyor or minimum 3 years’ experience in the engineering or inspection/survey fields with an IACS member Classification Society. Understanding of RINA strategic technical positioning in the sector of the marine industry Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of classification, statutory certification, related services and, before assignment, with their future work. Ability to develop a working knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the RINA Employee Safety Policy. Ability to understand engineering plans and have knowledge of shipbuilding practices and ship operations. Ability, in general, to perform either, new building surveys: to assess the suitability of certified materials and products supplied for the new building; to assess that hull, machinery and equipment have been built in compliance with rules and regulations by means of compulsory inspections, tests and trials; to issue Certificates, Reports, Records and Status in compliance with rules and regulations. And/or: ship in service surveys: to assess that hull, machinery and equipment have been maintained in compliance with rules and regulations by means of compulsory overall inspections, tests and trials; to assess and follow-up the repair works to hull, machinery and equipment to assign a new period of class and a new period of validity to statutory Certificates in compliance with rules and regulations by means of overall and close-up inspections, verification upon dismantling, tests and trials (including surveys for Admission to Class of ships in service); to attend major conversion works according with rules and regulations; to identify the deficiencies to be rectified (if any) and assess whether immediate repair is necessary or a condition may be issued with an appropriate due date; to follow-up as required by rules and regulations any repair work or due to previous outstanding conditions; to assess whether the deficiencies identified (if any) may be linked with potential failure of the Ship Management System; to endorse Certificates, issue Reports and Status in compliance with rules and regulations. And/or: Marine Management Systems audits And/or: testing activities and service suppliers/manufacturers certification: to assess the suitability of certified materials and products in compliance with applicable rules; to issue Certificates and prepare Reports and Status in compliance with procedures. Knowledge of ship engineering systems and machinery. Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities. Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
