Submarine Technical Program Manager, Subsea Engineering Job ID : | Amazon Data Services UK Limited Today, Amazon Web Services provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. The AWS Cloud infrastructure is built around Regions and Availability Zones (AZs). AWS Regions provide multiple, physically separated and isolated Availability Zones which are connected with low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant networking. How would you like to come be part of the team that builds out that low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant network? We are looking for a Technical Program Manager with proven experience, strong sense of ownership and passion for defining and driving large cross‑functional programs. The candidate should be self‑driven, have the ability to learn quickly and influence decision‑making across organizations. In this position, you will work closely with various Amazon business units to gather, refine and drive program goals including compliance and financial management. You will have the opportunity to implement new processes and procedures driving continuous improvement while interacting with a broad range of stakeholders across Amazon. At Amazon, we set a high bar, so expect to be challenged on the scope and scale of the problems we tackle. We are moving fast, using the latest technologies, and transforming the way we deliver global connectivity. Key job responsibilities In this position, the candidate will work closely with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to manage the compliance and reporting requirements of the global AWS subsea network. The candidate will be responsible for the managing and reporting of our compliance requirements and response, policy development, and compliance training. The candidate will also undertake financial and project management within the subsea engineering team to support the ongoing operations of our in‑service network. Specific knowledge of submarine cable deployment and operation is looked for, but not a necessity. A day in the life Our subsea projects are multi year in duration, requiring careful planning, disciplined execution and with a growing program, constant invention and simplification. We work with internal and external stakeholders and partners, driving projects to meet our goals and timelines. We ensure that the delivery of the projects meet our high standards and specifications. When faced with an issue or delay, we invent to solve for the roadblock alerting our customers along the way. Communications are crisp, timely and always advise a path forward. We learn from each other, ensuring global consistency. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. About the team The Subsea engineering team is responsible for all aspects of submarine network deployment, operation, upgrades and management within AWS. We own the technology roadmap and standards for submarine fibre optic cable, installation methods, procurement of the SLTE, RSPC and associated operational models and security postures. The team works closely with the Regional Business Development teams to deliver submarine capacity to a global standard, enabling economic and scalable consistency for all our customers. Diverse Experiences AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying. Why AWS? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. We pioneered cloud computing and never stopped innovating — that’s why customers from the most successful startups to Global 500 companies trust our robust suite of products and services to power their businesses. Inclusive Team Culture Here at AWS, it’s in our nature to learn and be curious. Our employee‑led affinity groups foster a culture of inclusion that empower us to be proud of our differences. Ongoing events and learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon conferences, inspire us to never stop embracing our uniqueness. Mentorship & Career Growth We’re continuously raising our performance bar as we strive to become Earth’s Best Employer. That’s why you’ll find endless knowledge‑sharing, mentorship and other career‑advancing resources here to help you develop into a better‑rounded professional. Work / Life Balance We value work‑life harmony. Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why we strive for flexibility as part of our working culture. When we feel supported in the workplace and at home, there’s nothing we can’t achieve in the cloud. Basic Qualifications 7+ years’ experience in Program Management, preferably on a global scale, with ability to conceptualize, manage, and prioritize multiple projects. Experience in automation, operational excellence, or continuous improvement techniques. Experience in compliance and risk management including developing and executing compliance management techniques. Experience interacting with and guiding senior management within a company and working across commercial, technical, domestic, and international arms of an organization. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with AI tools and automating workflows. Ability to merge traditional project management with agile processes. Experience in compiling financial records and forecasts. Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Amazon is an equal opportunities employer. We believe passionately that employing a diverse workforce is central to our success. We make recruiting decisions based on your experience and skills.
