Radiation Protection Specialist

The project: Terra Innovatum's mission is to make nuclear power accessible. We deliver simple and safe micro-reactor solutions that are scalable, affordable and deployable anywhere 1 Mwe at a time. You will be joining a fast-growing scaleup developing SOLO – a micro modular reactor – able to provide clean energy and radioisotopes where it is needed. You will be supporting the reactor licensing process in the US at first. You will support the founding team to scaleup to a leading tech company supplying much needed energy solutions globally. This is a unique opportunity to join a high performance team developing a global energy solutions leader.What you will be working on Terra Innovatum Radiation Protection Specialist will be: responsible for ensuring the safety of personnel, the public, and the environment by monitoring and controlling radiation exposure in nuclear power plants, research facilities, and other nuclear-related environments implementing radiation protection programs, conducting safety assessments, and ensuring compliance with federal and industry regulations work closely with health physicists, engineers, and regulatory agencies to minimize radiation risks and maintain safe operationsPotential next steps As the company is growing fast and plans international expansion in 2026, the right candidate will be considered for regional and/or global responsibility.What you will be in charge of: Developing, implementing, and overseeing radiation protection programs in compliance with NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission), EPA, and OSHA regulations. Monitoring radiation levels in nuclear facilities using dosimetry, survey meters, and remote sensing equipment. Conducting radiation exposure assessments and ensure worker safety through ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles. Establishing and maintaining contamination control measures, including decontamination procedures and protective equipment protocols. Providing training and guidance to plant personnel on radiation safety, emergency response, and proper handling of radioactive materials. Assisting in regulatory inspections, audits, and reporting requirements related to radiation protection. Developing shielding calculations and assess the effectiveness of radiation barriers. Evaluating radioactive waste management procedures to ensure compliance with disposal regulations. Investigating radiation incidents, perform dose reconstructions, and recommend corrective actions. Maintaining records of radiation exposure, contamination surveys, and safety compliance reports.Who we want to work with: Education:Master degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field. Experience:3-7 years of experience in radiation protection, nuclear plant operations, or health physics (entry-level positions may require internships or co-op experience). Certifications (Preferred):CHP (Certified Health Physicist), NRRPT (National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists), or equivalent industry credentials. Strong understanding of radiation physics, dosimetry, and contamination control. Proficiency in using radiation detection instruments (e.g., Geiger counters, scintillation detectors, ion chambers). Knowledge of NRC, EPA, and ANSI standards for radiation protection. Familiarity with radiation shielding design, ALARA principles, and regulatory compliance. Experience with radiation safety software and modeling tools is a plus. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Effective communication and training skills for educating personnel on radiation safety. High attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Preferred: IPO experience Written and oral fluency in Italian Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization
