Software Development Manager, Amazon - Ads Sales Tech Amazon Advertising operates at the intersection of e-commerce and advertising, offering a range of digital advertising solutions with the goal of helping customers discover and shop for anything they want to buy. The Amazon Advertising business is growing at a fast pace and this team’s mission is to apply technology to accelerate that growth through best-in-class software engineering, data engineering, and business intelligence. In this role, you will create the vision for your team, develop your team, and define the technological roadmap by partnering with Principal Engineers and Product Managers. This position requires a technical background in operating systems, software development, and systems development, with detailed planning, operational excellence, operational management and effective written and verbal communication skills, adapting to the different levels of audiences in the company. Key Job Responsibilities Manage and develop the teams that engineer key Ads technologies, including hiring, retention, performance management, mentoring and capability/skill development. Evaluate complex business and technical requirements, and communicate inherent risks and solutions to technical and non-technical business owners. Create vision for your team, planning focused on timely delivery, driving operational activities and on-call rotation for your team. Influence other teams and leaders outside your organization, work hand-in-hand with Principal Engineers, diving deep into technical areas as needed, and coordinate with other teams working in the same space spread across the world. Basic Qualifications 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services. Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live‑site operations. Experience partnering with product or program management teams. Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems. Preferred Qualifications Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy. Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective, product software engineers. Experience delivering products against plan in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplined, distributed‑responsibility and often ambiguous environment. A day in the lifeAs the manager of the team you own vision and mission of the team. You will attend daily team stand ups, weekly operational call hand-offs or other required meet with stakeholders regarding short‑term/long‑term projects. You will weekly meet with your team to discuss their career goals, and passions. You will lead operational excellence initiatives. You will partner with your Sr. SDEs and other tenured engineers to build and design architectures that will scale for the long term. You will provide guidance to senior leaders on long‑term technical strategies and approaches to solving problems within your domain.
