About the role

At Baxter’s Sesto Fiorentino site, we are looking for a CAPEX Project Lead to help shape the future of our facility through capital investment and engineering projects.

Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you will take projects from technical definition and planning through installation, testing, start-up and qualification support. You will have the opportunity to work across equipment, utilities and plant infrastructure, helping us modernize the site while ensuring projects meet GMP, safety, quality, budget and business requirements.

This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being close to operations and wants to broaden their experience in CAPEX and project management within a regulated manufacturing environment.

What you will be doing

  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager and Engineering Manager in defining the site investment plan, helping turn operational and business priorities into well-defined engineering projects that strengthen the facility’s long-term reliability.
  • Lead assigned projects from technical definition and preparation of approval documentation through installation, testing, start-up and closure, ensuring investments are delivered effectively and ready for operational use.
  • Monitor scope, timelines, costs, risks and open actions, keeping projects aligned with agreed objectives and enabling timely decisions when challenges arise.
  • Coordinate the installation and commissioning of equipment, utilities, machinery and plant systems, helping deliver safe, compliant and dependable solutions for the site.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, Maintenance, EHS and Engineering to plan activities carefully, minimize disruption and protect the continuity of site operations.
  • Coordinate contractors, suppliers and technical partners, ensuring that project work is completed to the required technical, GMP, quality, safety and environmental standards.
  • Support qualification activities and IQ/OQ documentation with Quality and Validation, helping ensure new or modified systems are compliant and suitable for their intended use.
  • Prepare CAPEX documentation, cost estimates and clear project updates, giving stakeholders visibility of progress, budget, key risks, decisions and next steps.
  • Maintain complete drawings, manuals, specifications, certifications and project records, ensuring that technical information remains accurate, controlled and accessible.
  • Contribute to EHS risk assessments for equipment, utilities and facility modifications, helping create a safe working environment throughout project execution and beyond.

What you will bring

  • A degree in Engineering or equivalent technical education.
  • Experience in engineering, maintenance, facilities, utilities or capital-project execution, ideally within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of project management fundamentals, including scope, schedule, cost, risk, supplier coordination, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of GMP, EHS, technical documentation and equipment or utility qualification principles would be an advantage.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate different stakeholders and keep projects moving forward.
  • A good level of English, enabling you to work with technical documentation and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
