SummaryCYP Assistants work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well-cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP. The CYP Assistant's day includes helping children develop social skills such as making friends and conflict resolution; making healthy choices whether it be choosing nutritional snacks or appropriate recreational activities; building self-help and school readiness skills; and exploring the environment around them.
DutiesThe duties and responsibilities of the CY Program Assistant include:
- Developing schedules and activity plans, incorporating the observed needs of children and youth.
- Implementing activities and special events that meet physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs.
- Preparing and executing program options for children and youth with special requirements.
- Demonstrating, instructing, and facilitating planned and spontaneous activities.
- Promoting safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.
- Helping prepare and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas.
- Establishing a positive environment that promotes engagement and interactions.
- Providing supervision and ensuring safety during activities and outings.
- Communicating effectively with parents, staff, and children/youth.
- Observing and documenting developmental progress and concerns.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
- Collecting and reporting program participation data.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Must be 18 years or older, complete required training, pass background checks, and meet immunization and health requirements. Must have a high school diploma or GED and be a U.S. citizen. Additional conditions include passing drug tests and background checks, with specific disqualifiers for certain offenses.
QualificationsCandidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, ability to follow instructions, promote teamwork, and have experience working with children or youth. Specific experience and educational requirements vary by level (Entry, Intermediate, Target).
EducationApplicants must provide proof of high school diploma, GED, or college transcripts. Requirements differ by level, with higher levels requiring additional experience, training, or credentials.
Additional InformationBackground checks are mandatory, including fingerprinting and criminal history checks. Some positions require completion of a probationary period and participation in direct deposit and E-Verify processes.
