About the company

Welyk is recruiting on behalf of Digital Pills, a consulting company focused exclusively on data, based in Turin with around 30 people. The company covers the entire data value chain: data strategy, data engineering, analytics engineering, BI and data science, with the goal of generating measurable impact for its clients. Over the last two years it has significantly strengthened its AI practice, both as an accelerator for existing data projects and with dedicated AI integration solutions. While remaining a compact company, it works with large international clients (including HelloFresh, Airalo and Last Minute) and Italian enterprise brands, and is pursuing an international expansion. It also dedicates a significant part of its activity to the non-profit sector, including pro bono projects for organisations such as AIRC and Save the Children.

Digital Pills recently received an investment from RIF-T, a vehicle controlled by Equiter and funded by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, to support its scale-up phase and its transformation into an AI & Data company: a model that uses client projects as an incubator for proprietary accelerators and products. This is the company's first position fully dedicated to software engineering: today development is a side activity of the data engineers, and with this role it becomes a discipline in its own right.

What you'll do

  • Take projects from requirements, even ambiguous ones, all the way to production and maintenance, choosing the architecture and making technical decisions autonomously, with no tech lead above you

  • Design and build cloud backends and APIs for data, machine learning and AI workloads: services on top of data warehouses and pipelines, integrations with model and LLM APIs, job orchestration, everything that makes data science work usable outside a notebook

  • Own the infrastructure autonomously (cloud setup, Infrastructure as Code, containers, CI/CD, environments, monitoring and cost control)

  • Define the company's engineering standards (repository structure, code review, testing, deployment flows, security basics), write them down and get them adopted by the data engineers who also develop

  • Turn solutions built for individual clients into reusable software (libraries, templates, services, internal products), working with the CTO and the team dedicated to proprietary products

  • Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists and client managers: translate business requirements into technical solutions and realistic estimates, explaining trade‑offs and limitations to non‑technical stakeholders and clients

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a software, backend or full stack engineer, with applications shipped to production and actually used (not only prototypes or proofs of concept)

  • Experience owning infrastructure and deployments, not only application code

  • At least one backend language at a senior level (Python, Node/TypeScript, Go, Java or similar), API design, authentication, background processing

  • SQL and data modelling, relational databases and at least one NoSQL/document store

  • Hands‑on experience with at least one cloud provider (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure are fine), Docker, CI/CD, Terraform or similar, Git workflows

  • Serverless and/or container orchestration (Cloud Run, Functions, Kubernetes or equivalent)

  • Experience with data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift or similar) and integration of ML/AI services and model APIs into production applications

  • Fluent Italian and C1 English: part of the projects involves international clients

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of a modern frontend framework (React, Vue or similar) to build simple, functional interfaces on top of backends and data, such as internal tools and dashboards. This is not a frontend specialist role

  • Experience with RAG, vector stores and agentic workflows

  • Background in consulting, agencies or product companies with fast delivery cycles

  • Experience with data‑oriented applications and with international stakeholders
