RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer-Categorie Protette 68/99 to join its office in Genoa within theEnvironmental and Engineering GeoscienceDivision.
Mission
Within the Environmental and Engineering Geoscience Division, we are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Categorie Protette 68/99 to join our team based in Genoa.
The role focuses on the geotechnical analysis and design of complex infrastructure projects, including soil and rock behaviour assessment, foundation design, numerical modelling, and coordination with multidisciplinary and BIM teams.
We are selecting a highly motivated engineer, registered as a protected category under Italian Law 68/99, who would like to join a dynamic team based in Genoa, willing to develop technical, managerial and soft skills competencies.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the development of geotechnical engineering designs from concept and feasibility studies through detailed design and construction support for complex infrastructure projects.
- Perform and review geotechnical analyses and calculations for shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, excavations, embankments, slopes, tunnels and soil-structure interaction problems.
- Develop, calibrate and interpret advanced numerical models using finite element and finite difference methods for static, dynamic and staged-construction analyses.
- Prepare and review Geotechnical Design Reports, design criteria, calculation notes, technical specifications, drawings and other engineering deliverables.
- Define geotechnical ground models and design parameters based on site investigation data, laboratory testing results and engineering judgement.
- Plan and supervise geotechnical investigation campaigns, including boreholes, in-situ testing and laboratory testing programmes, and interpret the resulting data.
- Assess geotechnical risks associated with natural hazards, groundwater conditions, excavation works and foundation systems, proposing appropriate mitigation measures.
- Review and technically control geotechnical designs and calculations prepared by internal teams, subcontractors or third parties.
- Coordinate geotechnical activities with structural, civil, hydraulic, tunnelling and construction disciplines to ensure fully integrated design solutions.
- Interface with BIM Coordinators and BIM Specialists to ensure consistency between geotechnical models, design calculations and BIM deliverables.
- Provide technical support during tendering, construction and commissioning phases, including review of contractor submissions, responses to technical queries and site inspections.
- Support project planning activities, including estimation of engineering effort, schedule development and monitoring of project deliverables.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical development of the geotechnical team.
- Prepare and present technical progress reports and participate in meetings with clients, contractors and project stakeholders.
- Ensure that all assigned activities are performed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, health and safety requirements and the RINA Quality Management System. #LI-IG1
Education
Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
Qualifications
- Mandatory requirement: Registered as a protected category under Italian Law 68/99 (collocamento mirato)
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a proven track record of project development and design.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and practices, with proven experience in the design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, excavations, embankments, slopes, underground structures and soil–structure interaction problems.
- Proven experience in advanced numerical modelling using finite element and finite difference methods for static, dynamic and staged-construction analyses.
- Ability to interpret and assess geotechnical investigation data, laboratory testing results and geological information, and to define geotechnical design parameters and ground models.
- Experience in planning and supervising geotechnical site investigations, including boreholes, in-situ testing and laboratory testing programmes.
- Sound understanding of geotechnical risks associated with foundations, excavations, groundwater conditions,
