Internship: Bacterial Target Identification, Italy, 2026
Educational Requirements: Master's Degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related Life Sciences discipline.
Other Preferred Qualifications: Previous laboratory internship or hands-on experience with microbiology or molecular biology techniques; Familiarity with laboratory information systems or electronic laboratory notebooks; Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis and PowerPoint for presenting results; Basic data visualization skills and experience summarizing experimental findings; Awareness of biosafety practices and handling of bacterial strains; English proficiency at B2 level or above.
Expected Start Date: November 2026. Duration: 6 months (renewable). Application Deadline: September 22, 2026.
Type of Contract: Extracurricular Internship. Work Mode: 100% on-site.
What will you do?
- Preparation of bacterial cultures for the expression of protein targets;
- Support in biochemical and microbiological experiments aimed at identifying and validating potential molecular targets, including SDS-PAGE, Western Blot and chromatography techniques;
- Collection, recording and preliminary analysis of experimental data using spreadsheets and laboratory systems;
- Maintenance of laboratory notebooks, documentation and records, ensuring appropriate sample tracking and storage;
- Support in reagent preparation, equipment checks and routine laboratory maintenance activities;
- Contribution to the preparation of clear scientific documentation and communication of results to the team;
- Collaboration with scientists and cross-functional teams to support research activities and contribute to project objectives.
What will you learn?
After completing your 6-month internship, you will have developed both practical and theoretical knowledge in microbiology research and bacterial target identification. In particular, you will have:
- Gained hands-on experience in microbiology techniques, sterile handling procedures and laboratory safety practices;
- Developed an understanding of how target identification and validation experiments are designed, executed and analyzed;
- Acquired skills in collecting, organizing and presenting scientific data through charts, reports and presentations;
- Strengthened your ability to communicate scientific findings and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams;
- Developed familiarity with regulated laboratory procedures, quality standards and scientific documentation practices;
- Learned how to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute to their implementation within a laboratory environment;
- Enhanced your problem-solving, analytical thinking and teamwork skills in a research setting.
