All travel and mission expenses are covered by the laboratory. A period of 6 months is mandatory and shall be fulfilled in Austria, Vienna at a specialized company. Required education Master Posted 16 May 2024 Project Description: Coastal marine infrastructures in the Upper Adriatic are subject to seabed changes due to the influx of river sediments and marine currents. These changes necessitate costly dredging operations to maintain the usability of the infrastructures. To optimize dredging, a digital model that takes into account sediment supply rate, sedimentation in currents, coastal erosion, and material deposition is needed. The use of satellite remote sensing provides data on coastal erosion, subsidence, suspended sediments, and seabed modifications. Training and Research Pathway: During the first year, the student will acquire credits by attending courses on

SAR

and multispectral remote sensing, Adriatic oceanography, geomorphology, data processing, calibration of observations to marine characteristics, and computer programming. The second year includes a 6-month period at a specialized foreign company in Austria. The third year will be dedicated to research and integrated data analysis at the University of Trieste, combining satellite remote sensing and in-situ marine observations. The iNEST Italian National consortium will define the research products to be transmitted to the coordinating body for marine infrastructure maintenance and will organize interventions based on a remote sensing data service.
