Space Vehicle Thermal Engineer

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We want you as a talented Space Vehicle Thermal Engineer to help us in our mission by contributing to the development, justification, and validation of our vehicle.
As a Thermal Engineer, you will be in charge of the thermal design definition and justification of the vehicles. You will work closely with our mechanical, CAD, and avionics engineers to optimize together the vehicle design and performance. You will be part of the Vehicle Design Team and will report to the Principal Thermal Engineer and the Vehicle Design Lead. You will work in close collaboration with Avionics, Design, and AIT teams.
Key Responsibilities
In your capacity as a Space Vehicle Thermal Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:
To generate the thermal and fluids models, with the right level of complexity depending on the maturity and the goals of the studyTo determine the thermal load cases through the entire system lifecycleTo provide technical solutions on optimizing the design and the spacecraft thermal management, in collaboration with other subsystems (propulsion, avionics, ECLSS...)To contribute to co-engineering sessions with suppliers to ensure the technical consistencyTo support the Thermal Control System algorithm definition with Flight Software and Avionics teamsTo support the test campaign preparation: test plan definition, conducting the tests, exploitation for simulation comparison and calibrationTo contribute to the creation and improvement of the thermal analysis toolsTo effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analyses, preparation, and presentation of technical dataTo prepare the technical documentation and participate in design reviews What we would love to see from you Qualifications Advanced degree (Master of Science or PhD) in aerospace engineering, heat transfer and fluid mechanics, or another related field3 to 5 years of experience working in space vehicle thermal designGood knowledge of thermal management and both ATCS and PTCSStrong knowledge in Thermal and fluid analysisExperience with several thermal software (Thermal Desktop, ESATAN) is strongly appreciatedExperience with programming (Python, Matlab...)Experience with CFD is a plusFluent in English. German, French, and Italian is an assetSkills and Behaviours Strong oral and written communication skillsStrong analysis and problem-solving skillsStrong organizing and prioritization of tasksPositive and flexible attitude to get the job doneDemonstrates behaviours consistent with The Exploration Company's core values of Vision, Competence, Integrity, and Passion Why you should join us
